It is with sadden hearts that the family announces the passing of our beloved brother, uncle and friend, David ‘Dave’ Joseph Desmond on Friday, March 6, 2015, at home.
Born in Sydney, Dave was the son of the late Albert and Theresa (Proctor) Desmond.
Independence was everything to Dave. He retired from the correctional centre as cook. He loved the company of his family and friends. Dave will be remembered by family and friends being very strong-willed and caring for those in need. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Dave is survived by his brother, Frankie; sisters, Anne (Garvan) Herbert, Marie (Stan) Margetti and Muriel Farmer; as well as several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He is also survived by his very dear friend, Jackie Long.
Besides his parents, Dave was predeceased by his brother, Albert Desmond Jr., stepfather, Jim Smith and nephew, Albert Ford.
Visitation for the late David ‘Dave’ Joseph Desmond will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Tuesday, March 10, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, Mar. 8, 2015, at 10 a.m. in Holy Redeemer Church, with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Following the mass, reception will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home. Interment will take place in new Calvary Cemetery, Whitney Pier, at a later date.
Donations in memory of Dave may be made to the Children Wish Foundation.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
