Passed peacefully away in the presence of his loving family at the Lions Manor Nursing Home, Monday, March 9, 2015, Gerry Griffiths of Placentia, age 78 years. Predeceased by: first wife Margaret (Maclean) and baby daughter Marietta and second wife Emma (Keeping). Also predeceased by: parents James and Nancy (Quirk) Griffiths; step-mother Mary (Quirk) Griffiths; brothers John and Mary Griffiths, Ray, and Bob and Diane Griffiths; sister Marietta Cole and special nephew Ronald Griffiths. Leaving to mourn loving daughter Angie (Cadena) and her husband Raul, and the joy and light of his life - his granddaughter Emma Margaret. Also leaving to mourn sister Anne and loving and devoted sister Sadie; special sister-in-law Marion Griffiths, and a large circle of family and friends who will miss him dearly, especially residents of the Beachside Manor and Lions Manor, Placentia. Resting at Maher's Funeral Home, Placentia on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 10 and 11 from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial to take place at Sacred Heart Church, Placentia on Thursday, March 11 at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Dermot McGettigan Memorial Cemetery, Southeast Placentia. Special thanks to staff of Beachside Manor and Lions Manor for your compassionate care. Gerry was a community icon and wore many hats. He retired from the Canadian Coast Guard after 20 years of service, and then began his volunteer career. From Bay TV, crime prevention, storyteller (recitations), Placentia Historical Society, Knights of Columbus, Star of the Sea (honourary member), Royal Canadian Legion (10 years Royal Canadian Navy), honourary citizen of Fox Harbour, Santa and the Town Crier. At the young age of 67, Gerry completed the Tely 10. His zest for life was unparalleled by his love of family and friends. His devotion to the Placentia Area from Ship Harbour to the Cape Shore was instilled in stranger and kin alike. He put the area on the map. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations can be made to the Poppy Fund in his memory.
