Albert Flemming

FLEMMING, Albert - age 89, of Truro, passed away Monday evening, March 9, 2015, with family by his side. Born at 67 Queen Street, to Wm A. and Helen (Dunlap) Flemming, Al lived a full and curious life. He is survived by his sisters, Kay Purdy, Truro; Anne Gookin, Palm Desert, CA; his brother, George (Shelley) Flemming, Truro; his cousin, Carolyn MacDonald, Truro, and their families; his children, Joanne (Mike) Chamberlin, Santa Cruz, CA; Thomas A Flemming, Tatamagouche; Susan Flemming, Montreal; Rose Flemming, Bridgetown; Robert L. (Louise) Flemming, Bella Bella, BC; Keelin Jack Flemming, Halifax; J. Rhiannon Flemming, London, UK; and seven grandchildren, numerous friends and relatives, and his beloved dog, Finn. Predeceased by first wife, Joan (Chipman) Flemming, and brother, Wm Dunlap Flemming. A beekeeper from a young age, Al built up Flemming’s Honey while raising his family. Graduating from Mount Allison (1946), and NS Tech (1948) with a BS Mechanical Engineering, he worked at various mines across Canada, before joining the Engineering Faculty of Mount Allison (1956) and NSTC Faculty (1965). A bassoonist in the Truro Concert Band and Pictou County Community Orchestra, Al was also a whistler extraordinaire. Best known to most of us as a storyteller in the true Irish tradition, he travelled the countryside to many of our homes and kept us entertained. We thought he would outlive us all. A celebration gathering will be held at the Colchester Legion Stadium on Saturday, 14 March, from 2-5 pm. In lieu of flowers, bring a story.
