Florence Scranton

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Florence Pearl Scranton announce her peaceful passing on Sunday, March 15, 2015 at the age of 83 years at the Glen Haven Manor Nursing Home in New Glasgow.
Florence leaves to mourn with loving memories, her children: Kenny Young (Lalia), Alberta, Colleen Scranton (Les), New Glasgow, Bill Scranton (Wanda), Alberta, Sharon Rand (Wayne), Annapolis Valley; nine grandchildren: Stephen Young, Derrick Young, Lee Bartosh, Corey Scranton, Bryce Scranton, Adam Scranton, April Rand, Reggie Rand, Eric Rand, and three great grandchildren: Caleb, Sarah and Noah; sisters, Judy Gilbert and Iris Anderson of Ontario; brothers: Jim and Terry, Corner Brook, and George of Alberta.
Florence was predeceased by her husband William (Bill) Scranton, brothers: Levi, Tom, and Derrick Hefford, and sisters, Gwendolyn Lilly and Lydia Wright.
Florence was born in Buchans, Newfoundland to parents George and Emily Hefford on September 27, 1931, and although had been residing in Nova Scotia for most of her lifetime, her heart always remained on the Rock.
Family will remember Florence, or “Toss” as she was known to her brothers and sisters, as a loving and generous person who always put the feelings of others before herself. Along with her family, her friends will remember her as the life of the party; she could always be found playing cards and visiting with her many friends in Tracadie, or kicking up her heels at a local dance hall.
The family would like to thank the amazing and professional staff at the Glen Haven Manor Nursing Home. They made Florence part of their family and she very much enjoyed the entertainment and joking around with the staff. They came to realize, as her family and friends already knew, that she processed a great sense of humour and a quick wit. The family would also like to thank Sister Mary with whom Florence had a special bond.
Cremation to take place. Funeral service will be held at a later date.
As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia.
