1910 - 2015
Thomas McGrath, formerly of Acadieville, NB, passed away surrounded by his loving family at the Drew Nursing Home in Sackville on March 16, 2015 at the age of 104. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Thomas was born in Wine River on April 28th, 1910, the eldest son of the late Terence McGraw and Mélanie Blanchard. He was a member of the Roman Catholic Church, The Josephites Society of St. Joseph of the Sacred Heart, Baltimore Maryland and The Mission of the Society of the Little Flower (Ste. Thérèse). He was a scaler for 30 years working for Fraser Company, McMillan-Bloedell, Rothesay Paper and Irving Company. He was also a skillful carpenter.
He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Marie Roach (1990); an infant daughter, Lina; three sons, infant Guy, Raymond, Vincent and a grandson Jason. Also predeceased by siblings Mary, Bernard, Rita, Albert and Eva.
He will be missed by four daughters, Linda LeBlanc and Stella Lemay (Gilles) of Moncton, Cécile Doucet (Gilles) of Dieppe, Béatrice Robichaud (Ronald) of Leominster Mass and four sons, Eddy (Monique) of Moncton, Albert of Toronto, David (Barbara Leonard) of Florida and Bernard (Cathy) Gatineau of Québec. He is also survived by three daughters-in-law Annie, Jeannette and Lina; seventeen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.
Thomas enjoyed life to the fullest, living independently in his apartment until the age of 102. Listening to country music, playing cards, visiting family and friends in Ontario, Quebec, USA, trips to the cottage, precious outings with friends in Kouchibouguac were activities that he treasured. Not forgetting his passion for predicting the weather.
The family will be receiving friends and relatives at Thompson Memorial Home in Saint-Louis-de-Kent, 148 Saint Ignace Rd on Wednesday from 7 to 9 pm and Thursday from 9:00 am until departure for the funeral. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on March 19, 2015 at 11:00 am at the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Acadieville. Interment will be in the parish cemetery at a later date.
In Thomas’s memory donations to the Acadieville Roman Catholic Cemetery would be appreciated.
