Passed on: March 16th, 2015

With broken hearts, we announce the sudden passing of our father, Stanley 'Stan' Burton, 68 of Cape North and longtime partner of Louise Hawkins, of North Sydney at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney on Monday, March 16, 2015.
He was born on May 11, 1946 to his mother, Theresa Burton (McLellan), deceased, and his father, William, who died when Stan was only five years old. He was also predeceased by his brother, Lenwood and sister, Audrey.
Stan worked for many years on the lake boats in Ontario until an injury forced his retirement. He was a longtime member of the Seafarers International Union. He lived for several years in St. Catharines, Ont. in the 60s and 70s where his first two children were born. With his young family, he felt the call to return home to Cape Breton. He returned in 1975 where his third child was born in Neil's Harbour. He remained in Cape North until his untimely passing.
He is survived by his son, Darryl Burton (Carole Boudreau), of Hammonds Plains; his daughters, Lisa Burton (Shaun Anderson), Enfield and April Burton, Dartmouth. He is also survived by his adoring grandchildren and the lights of his life, Camryn and Drew Burton, and Autumn Burton-Anderson. Also surviving are brothers, Sandy and Sidney (Edie), Cape North, Alex of Dartmouth, and by his sisters, Wilda Durando (Hughie) of Cape North and Burnetta Sorbin of Moncton, along with loving nieces, nephews, and friends. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Maureen Corrigan. There will be a celebration of Stan's life this summer in Cape North. Details to follow.
Donations can be made to the Diabetes Association or a charity of your choice.
May he rest in peace. We will miss you and our annual summer get-togethers in Cape North.
