Martha Denny

PICTOU LANDING FIRST NATION – Martha Denny, 81 of Cemetary Road, Pictou Landing First Nation, passed away March 17, 2015 at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Cape Breton, she was a daughter of the late Roderick and Helen (Prosper) Francis.
She is the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Martha was a life long resident of Pictou Landing where she was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church, having taught cathecism there for a number of years. She was a traditionalist who enjoyed the annual Pow-Wows. She worked as a teacher’s aide at the Frank H. MacDonald Elementary School, as well as the former St. John’s Academy in New Glasgow.
She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years Frank Sr., Pictou Landing First Nation; sons: Kevin, Wayne (Bev), Sandy, Gary (Michelle), Frank Jr. (Cheryl), David; daughters: Helen (Mike), Elaine, Diane, Darlene (Mohammed), all of Pictou Landing First Nation; 36 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a son in infancy, a grandson Dabish, a daughter-in-law Audrey Denny, a son-in-law Eldon Francis; brothers: Raymond, Louis, Dennis and Lawrence.
Her remains will rest at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church, Pictou Landing First Nation after 2 p.m. Friday from where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday with Father Gary MacPherson presiding. Burial will take place at a later date in the parish cemetery.
