GEIS, Eric Robert – age 69, Yarmouth, NS, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 in Grande Prairie, AB. Born December 29, 1945 in Stamford, CT, he was a son of the late Edward William and Katherine Elizabeth (Boyer) Geis. Eric served with the United States Air Force from 1963-1967 as a Bomber Navigation Systems Technician. Following this, he attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, graduating with a BS in Business (concentration in Business Management) and went on to graduate from the Thunderbird American Graduate School of International Business Management with a Master of International Management degree in 1996. During his career, he worked as a certified public accountant, forensic accountant, auditor and a strategic business adviser. Adventurous, he was never one to turn down a challenge or try new things. He experienced several outings on a lobster boat and took part in the Wedgeport Sport Tuna Fishing Tournament. He also enjoyed skydiving and had over 200 parachute jumps under his belt and had hoped to take his daughters skydiving some day. Much to his sister Margaret’s chagrin, Eric had little, if any, interest in sports, but they had many a discussion about politics and DIY shows, especially Holmes on Homes. His brother John recalls the brief conflagration resulting from the two of them disposing of the family Christmas tree by burning it whole in the fireplace. Eric was always determined to improve the environment around him through unconventional solutions! He spent many afternoons at the Mug Up Tea Room at Cape Forchu, dropping in after Mass for lunch and to enjoy the view. He was a former chairman for the Yarmouth Boys and Girls Club, where he was currently serving on the board of directors, and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 2181, as well as of the Msgr. W. E. Young Fourth Degree Assembly No. 1428, both in Yarmouth. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia N. Sayat-Geis, as well as by his loving daughters, Sophie Elizabeth Sayat Geis, Olivia Maria Sayat Geis and Lisa B. Weaver. Also surviving are his sister, Margaret C. Geis and brother, John L. (Angela) Geis. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Barbara C. Heald (2005). Visitation took place from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, with prayers at 8:00, both at H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth. The funeral Mass was held at 2 p.m., Monday, March 30 from Saint Ambrose Cathedral, Yarmouth, Father Patrick O’Meara officiated. Interment will take place in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Yarmouth at a later date. It was requested that there be family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to The Friends of the Yarmouth Light Society. You may sign the online guestbook or leave messages of condolence for the family by visiting www.huskilson.net
