It is with deep sadness that we the family announce the passing of a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, William Jones at the age of 72 at the QE2 in Halifax.
Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Clifford and Pearl (McLeod) Jones.
William married the love of his life, Joan on August 6, 1963 and together they raised their four children in 14 Yard, a place that meant a lot to them. He was also a coal miner for 29 years, working in 4 mines, 18, 20, 12 and Lingan. He loved camping with his family in Margaree, was a great baseball player, enjoyed music, especially listening to the Kitchen Party on the radio on Saturday nights, he volunteered for many organizations, was a life time member of the Army, Navy and Airforce, Unit 217, New Waterford, honoree life time member of the Glace Bay U.N.I.A and he received a certificate of appreciation from the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission. William loved the outdoors working in his yard, which always looked beautiful.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Joan; children Pearl (Tommy), Michelle (George), William (Melissa) and Danny (Erika); brothers John Alex, Joseph (Scramy), Montreal, sister Louise, Ontario; grandchildren Jennifer (Mark), Kenneth (Karissa), Danielle, Kaitlyn, Ryan, Justin, Amy and Evan.
Besides his parents, he is also predeceased by sisters Lillian Blewer and Viola Cadgen.
Cremation has taken place. A funeral service to celebrate William's life will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 2 p.m. in the Parish of Saint Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue with Father Joe Gillis officiating followed by a luncheon at the Army, Navy and Airforce, Smith Street. All are welcome. Burial will be held in Forest Haven cemetery at a later date. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 862-7500.
