Patricia Allen

Patricia would like to inform you that her work is done. On Sunday March 29th, she was able to leave behind her pain, and transcend her earthly form to join Andy, her husband and partner in joy.
Many are left to mourn and acknowledge a job well done. Immediate family: Luke Morris and her mother, Eleanor 'Nannie'; the Frasers – Harry and Sharon, Jake, Ben, Courtney and Chad; the Bischoffs – Diane and Barry and the Dexters – Jim and Christa, Ella, Haydon and Layton.
She was predeceased by Andy in 2003, and her father Herbert.
Born in Bridgewater on Dec 21, 1949, and raised in New Glasgow, Patricia truly felt that Nova Scotia was home. Having lived in Texas, Alaska, Newfoundland and Florida, she was happiest when in 2000, she and Andy returned to Halifax to settle near the waterfront. It was obvious, to all that knew her, a coastal lifestyle, socializing with friends and travelling by air/boat/auto to any new destination gave her great pleasure.
Along the way, from Ma Jong in Newfoundland to bargain shopping in Florida and Maine, she lived life fully for as long as she could. As with many aspects of her life, the more on the table, the more to explore, learn and share. Her friend, Judith Ryan, will ever smile at the memories of the adventures they shared.
Over the last 10 years, her caregivers gifted her a view of the world. In sharing their daily life experiences, she continued to engage in life beyond the confinements of a wheelchair. Their gifts to her were priceless and unique to each individual. She felt truly blessed to have the companionship of these stellar individuals who took up a calling to improve her day-to-day life. Elena, her dear friend and trusted guide, Kim – her light, Stephanie – her constant, Sam – her joy, Mint – her compassion, Tracey, Arlene and Adrian – her 'Team Patricia' advocates … we all salute.
Special mention to the McCarthy family – Nancy, Pat, Shae & Flossie; friends Linda Lou MacIntyre and Gail Mosher; who held her up and supported her as only family can do.
Patricia had profound respect for the talents of Dr. Shalini Veerassamy, Dr. Christine Short, Palliative Care team of Glenna Thornhill and Dr. Krueger and Continuing Care Coordinator Natasha Kerr. Each of these professionals went above and beyond to devise a quality of life plan focused on Patricia's comfort.
With conviction and passion, Patricia added her voice to those lobbying for Canada and the provinces to allow and facilitate the chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency (CCSVI) therapy. To support this effort, Patricia would like to direct any memorial donations to the National CCSVI Society. She was disappointed the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada did not champion this initiative.
Today, light a candle, burn some sandalwood incense (her favorite) and remember the beauty of our sister, daughter, aunt, mother and friend and bless the peace that has finally come to her.
Arrangements have been entrusted to JA Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, N.S. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
