THREE BROOKS – Howard John Usher, 92, Three Brooks, Pictou County. We are saddened to announce the death of Howard on Sunday, April 12, 2015, in the Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow.
Born in England on October 9, 1922, he came to Canada at age three. He was the son of the late John Usher and Daisy (Fairminer Usher) MacCready and stepson of the late Lib Usher and Alex MacCready.
He was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Olive Irene (MacInnis) Usher on August 27, 2012.
Howard had lived in Springhill and Little Harbour, but settled in Three Brooks 64 years ago, having continued to farm until the age of 79. He was retired from Hawker Siddeley and was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Pictou. He was also interested in horse racing.
Howard will be greatly missed by family and friends: sons, Jimmie (Eleanor) Usher, Lower Sackville, and Sandy (Donna) Usher, Three Brooks; daughters, Christine (Kenny) Feltmate, Pictou, and Irene (Gary) Bray, Old Post Road; eleven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Walter MacInnis, and sister-in-law, Christine MacDonald.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral will take place 3 p.m. Thursday from First Presbyterian Church, Pictou, with Rev. Iona Maclean officiating. A Reception will follow in the church hall. Burial will be in Haliburton Cemetery at a later date. Family flowers only please. Donations in his memory may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or a charity of your choice.
