Joan Sturdy

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Joan Sturdy age 73 of Tidnish on Thursday, April 23, 2015 in the comfort of her home.
Born March 18, 1942 in Maccan, she was a daughter of the late Lawson and Olive (Kellegrew) Long.
In her earlier years, Joan worked for Nova Scotia Provincial Tax Commission in Halifax and then moved back to Amherst where she was later employed with IMP Aerospace in the payroll department for many years.
Joan loved her Sunday drives and exploring the backroads of Cumberland County and beyond. She enjoyed spending time at their country home surrounded by the local wildlife and watching the many species of birds.
Joan will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her spouse, Don Chapman; step daughter, Christine (Michel Vaillancourt) Chapman, Morell, PEI; three brothers, Ronald (Doris) Long, Sarnia, ON, Jack (Patricia) Long, Nepean, ON and James (Linda) Long, Amherst; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Joan was predeceased by her sister, Carol Louise in infancy; and niece, Carol Ann Long.
As per Joan’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
A celebration of Life was held on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 between the hours of 6-8 p.m. at Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (667-9906).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Joan’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Arthritis Society.
