Born in Southport, P.E.I. on November 27, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Wilfred and Mary (MacDonald) Wood.
Ruth is survived by her sons, Leigh (Joyce) of Saint John, N.B. and Glen of Riverview, N.B.; daughter, Nancy Ryder (Ian) of Woodstock, N.B.; daughter- in-law, Sherry Mercer of Riverview, N.B.; loving grandchildren, Ashley, Kelsey, Sarah, Jason, Andrew and Patrick; sister, Ruby Doucette (Elton) of Charlottetown, P.E.I.; uncles, Donald MacDonald and David MacDonald of Kinross, P.E.I.; sisters-in-law, Mildred Stevenson of Claresholm, AB, Hazel Anderson of Charlottetown, P.E.I. and Jean Bulman of Rustico, P.E.I.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Elmer in 2010; infant son, in 1956; son, Bloyce in 2007; and sister, Hilda Douglas in 2015.
Family, friends and acquaintances of Ruth knew a quiet, kind and gentle woman with a warm smile, a soft laugh and a rich sense of humor. A loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister, she was immensely proud of her children and grandchildren, sharing in their lives, supporting their pursuits and taking pride in their accomplishments. Whenever called upon, “Mom”, “Nanny” or “Ruth” would ask only what she could do to help, no matter the circumstances, and gladly do what she could. When life’s difficult challenges presented themselves, Ruth bravely faced them with strength, dignity and conviction, without complaint or thought of self. Ruth enriched the lives of many, and is fondly remembered by all who knew her. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and will always hold a special place in our hearts.
