1926-2015
With heavy hearts we announce the death of our mother Jackie of Dorchester, NB. She died peacefully at the Drew Nursing home, on May 8th, surrounded by her family.
Jackie’s dedication to church, school, and community was evident through her involvement in CWL (life member), parish ministries (including 60 plus years as a church organist); brownie leader, village councillor and deputy mayor; avid fundraiser, strong supporter of school activities. In 1984, she developed the Bicentennial Belles.
Known as the “cake lady”, Jackie’s beautiful cakes contributed to the celebrations of many family and community events. In 1986, she was named Dorchester Citizen of the Year.
Over the years, she was employed by Eaton’s, Corrections Canada, UIC and Stats Canada.
Jackie was predeceased by her husband, Bernie, and her brother Eugene.
She will be sadly missed by her children Sharon (Rick), Michael (Deb), Eileen (Andrew), Sheila, Margie (Brian), and Kathleen (Darryl); Grandchildren Michael, Mary Frances, Jennifer, Bran, Andrew, Kate, Jessie, Alex and Lucas; and great-grandchildren Alice, Lucy, Rose and Sophie; sisters Cecilia, brothers Robert (Diane), Raymond (Francoise); and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge Street, Sackville (364-1300) on Sunday, May 10th, from 7 to 9pm, and Monday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm (Parish prayers at 8:30pm).
Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday May 12th, at 11:00am, at St. Vincent’s Roman Catholic Church, 63 Charlotte St. Sackville N.B.; followed by interment in St. Edward’s Cemetery. A reception will follow the Interment.
Donations can be made to the Dorchester School music program or a charity of the donors choice.
