Marilyn Ivey

IVEY, MARILYN JOAN
It is with deep sadness for the family to announce the passing of an all-around incredible woman that this world could use a lot more of. After a strong and brave battle, Marilyn Joan Ivey left this world to seek peace on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at the Oromocto Public Hospital.
Known by all who loved her, “Joanie” was born on April 20 in Pictou Island, NS. Joanie was the daughter of Jack and Mary Rankin and the youngest of her eight predeceased siblings. She was also predeceased by her husband, the late George Ivey.
Joanie is survived by daughter, Darlene Richer; son-in-law, Charlie Richer; son, Duane Hayden; granddaughter, Sheena Caissie; grandson, Jason Hayden and wife Aleta; and great-grandchildren, Chase Hayden, Jordan Grant, Terry Petitpas and Colin Hayden.
There aren’t enough words or pages in this paper to express the countless admirable qualities that Joanie possessed. At an age so young she could not reach the pedals of an old pump organ, she was a self-taught prodigy on the piano. For all her days this inspired and brought joy to all of whom were fortunate enough to hear her play. Joanie’s greatest joy was bringing joy to others, therefore, she generously devoted a great deal of her time lifting spirits of the residents at the VON, Pine Grove Nursing Home and York Manor with her band “Joanie and Friends”. Joanie also held regular gatherings at her home for those closest to her that she liked to call “Joanie’s Jam”, where all would gather in the kitchen for great music, laughter, and enough food to feed the town- another one of her passions she excelled at.
Most importantly, Joanie was the most loyal, loving, and caring mother, grandmother and friend anyone could ever ask for and will be missed immensely by all.
At Joanie’s request, there will be no viewing. The funeral will be held at Oromocto Funeral Home on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 11 am with The Reverend Canon Walter Williams officiating.
No flowers by request please. For those who wish, donations in Joanie's memory can be made to the IWK Children’s Foundation.
