Shirley Anne Harvey

Born In: Glace Bay

Passed in: Albert Bridge
Passed on: May 8th, 2015

Shirley Anne Harvey, 67, of Sangaree Road, Albert Bridge, passed away Friday, May 8, 2015, in the An Cala Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Edith (Budden) Smith.
Shirley started her career at the Royal Bank in Glace Bay and from there she went on to take a position in the Finance department at Seaview Manor where she worked for 35 years until retirement. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Glace Bay. Shirley was the type of person who made friends wherever she went; her heart of gold and contagious laugh are only some of her many amazing qualities. She had a zest for life and was game for anything — just ask her lifelong friends, The Caledonia Cuties. There was always an adventure to be had.
Shirley was a devoted member of the Cape Breastoners Dragon Boat Team. She loved being in the boat with her paddle in the water, "Paddle's Up!". When you couldn't find her in the Dragon Boat you could be sure to find her enjoying lazy, hazy days on the Mira River aboard the TICATBOO with Captain George by her side. Shirley enjoyed knitting and gifted many of her famous dishcloths to all who came to visit. She had a passion for shoes, so much so that George even built her her own shoe closet. Shirley was a beautiful person inside and out. She was truly the best wife, most amazing mother and grandmother, loving sister, and the best friend anyone could have.
Shirley is survived by her husband George of 44 years; daughter Deanna (Mark) Green Sydney; sons, Bradley (Jennifer), Seagrave, Ont., and Brian (Shawna), Halifax; sisters, Donna Smith Billard, Baddeck, Sharon Smith, Halifax; brother David (Carol), Ontario; grandchildren, Colin, Brenna, Aiden. Also her lifelong friends, the Caledonia Cuties.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel. Visitation will take place Tuesday May 12, 2015 in Sydney Memorial Chapel from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in St. Mary’s Church, Glace Bay, with Rev. Vernon Reid officiating. Interment will take place at a later date.
Memorials in Shirley’s memory may be made to the Palliative Care foundation at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, the Alzheimer's Society of N.S., or the VON Cape Breton Community Support Programs.
Words of comfort may be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca or e-mail sydneymemorialchapel@ns.sympatico.ca.
