Eileen Forrest

The peaceful passing of Eileen Mary Forrest age 90 of Amherst occurred on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Amherst, NS.
Born October 23, 1924 in Shemogue, NB, she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Evelyn (Duguay) Niles.
Eileen (Nan) was one of those rare individuals you meet in life. One who made the world better for all who came in contact with her.
She did this with a rare combination of love, talent and energy.
While her list of accomplishments is endless she will be remembered as a caregiver. With all the talent of a practical nurse, chef, financial officer and spiritual advisor.
Her range of talents were an endless source of amazement to her family and friends.
These talents ranged from home maker to assembly line worker in the war effort of the 1940's to musician.
At the age of 87 Eileen on a visit with her son, Leonard’s family in Alberta learned to play a traditional musical instrument.
She did this well enough to perform live with her son and grandson and their band. A source of delight and amazement to all who have viewed her performances live or on YouTube.
Nan's hands were always busy. A talented seamstress, no one in her family circle ever considered a tailor shop if a new suit required altering or a granddaughter wanted a custom designed prom dress or you had a preference for hand knitted socks you went to Nan.
If a task was there to be done, Eileen could and would with a beautiful smile make it happen.
Eileen will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her son, Leonard (Darlene), Brooks, AB; daughter, Sharon (Gordon) Smith, Dartmouth, NS; grandchildren, Richard (Janice), Aundrea, Allison (Nathan) and Joseph; great grandchildren, Zachary, Ethan and Cassidy; brothers, John, Fitzburg, Mass, US, Edward, Shemogue, NB; Jim and Bernie Gould who were entrusted to Eileen’s care after the passing of their mom, Rita. Also remembered by several other nieces, nephews and extended family. Brother in-law Norman Nicholson and sister in-law Glenda Niles.
In addition to her parents, Eileen was predeceased by her husband, Ernest; brothers, Louis, Ernest and Henry; sisters, Rita Gould and Hazel Nicholson.
A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 from 2- 4 and 7-9 p.m. with parish prayers at 8:30 pm at Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (667-9906).
