John Sidney 'Sid' Boutilier

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather and brother, John Sidney 'Sid' Boutilier, 77, of Sydney Mines on Sunday, May 10, 2015, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family, after a brief illness.
Born in Little Pond on Jan. 1, 1938, he was the son of the late Dean and Elizabeth (Hunley) Boutilier.
He was married to the late Cyrilla (MacMullin) Boutilier. Sid was a member of St. Joseph parish, Bras d’Or. In his early years, Dad worked as a SIU sailor out of Thorold, Ont. He later became a heavy equipment operator for Coastal Construction for many years. Sid also bartended at the KOC in Sydney Mines and then went on to bartend at the Royal Canadian Legion, Florence.
Sid enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren, and friends. His favourite pastimes were fishing, working and volunteering at the Florence legion, and going for drives with his two buddies, Frankie Sampson and Ernie Anderson, AKA Ernie and Bert. “Big Bird will miss you.”
Sid is survived by his children, Lloyd ( Wanda), Oakville, Ont., Susan (Danny), Sydney Mines, Stephen ( Melinda), Janna (Timmy Jessome), both of Bras d’Or, Kirk (Trina), Kingston, Ont. He was the devoted grandfather of Josh, Jacqueline, Brooke, Baylee, Tanner, Ceilidh, Sara, Jered, T.J., Beth and Connor. Also left to mourn are his sisters, Marie O’Handley, Sydney Mines, Sharon (Bob), Arlene (Brian), Rosella (Bill), all of Brampton Ont.; brothers, Arthur (Anne), Vancouver, B.C., Edward (Linda), St. Catharines, Ont., Theodore (Lana), Napanee, Ont., Brian (Donna), Little Pond; brothers-in-law, Joe O’Quinn, Ontario, Joseph (Maureen), Sydney Mines; sisters-in-law, Marlie Boutilier, Little Pond, Ave Stoddard, Berwick, Vera MacMullin, Florence, and Phyllis MacMullin, Kentville; aunts, Mildred Hunley, Bras d’Or, Rosella (Conrad) MacDonald, Sydney Mines; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Burnsie, sisters, Judy and Carole, brothers-in-law, William MacMullin, John David MacMullin, Lloyd MacMullin and Harry O’Handley.
Visitation for the late Sidney Boutilier will be held in the J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines on Wednesday, May 13, 2015, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass celebrating his life will be held on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating. A reception will follow in the Royal Canadian Legion, Florence.
In lieu of flowers donations in Sidney’s memory may be made to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital palliative-care unit.
