Mr. Cecil Staples passed away May 10, 2015 at the age of 96. Cecil was born in the Petrolia district in 1919 and attended Petrolia School. He joined the Canadian Forces in 1940 and served overseas, being discharged in 1945. He married Marjorie Duncan in 1948. They farmed for many years in the Petrolia district. Cecil, after selling the farm and moving the Moose Jaw, became a property manager with Ottawa Real Estate. Cecil was a long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion. In his younger years he played baseball with the Petrolia team, and he and Marjorie enjoyed many years square dancing with St. Andrew’s Button & Bows. They enjoyed travelling, and also wintered in Texas and Arizona. Predeceased by 3 brothers and 1 sister, Cecil is lovingly remembered by his wife Marjorie; children: Duncan – Saskatoon, Audrey (Luc) – Medicine Hat, Carol (Al) – Moose Jaw, and Doug (Mary) – Moose Jaw; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. At Cecil’s request, there will be a Private Family Graveside service at a later date. For those so wishing, memorial donations may be made to the Moose Jaw Health Foundation, New Facility Fund, 455 Fairford St. E., S6H 1H3.
