Dmytro (Mac) Chubak
November 19, 1919 – May 9, 2015
It is with great sadness that we announce Dmytro (Mac) Chubak, passed away with his family at his side on May 9, 2015 at the Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert, Sask.
Mac was born in Cudworth, Sask. In 1942 he enlisted in the Army with the Royal Canadian Engineers & in the same year married the love of his life, Nellie Novak. He served in the United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany until the 1939-1945 war ended. (He was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, the France and Germany Star, and the Defence Medal). In 1946 Mac applied to Veteran’s Land Act (VLA) and was granted ½ section of land. Mac and Nellie farmed 50 years then retired to Prince Albert.
Mac was very sociable, he loved being a host and he genuinely welcomed anyone who visited. He worked hard and always was ready to help his community, neighbours and friends. He was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion and served many years as an Executive member/President and as an altar helper of the Yellow Creek Ukrainian Catholic Church. In retirement, he found great joy in being outdoors puttering about, going fishing, playing his all-time favourite card game 7 – catch or checkers.
Mac was predeceased by his parents Francis and Mike; Sisters Mary, Josephine, and Lena; Brothers Nick Chubak, William, Peter, Joseph, and Tony Dutka; Brothers in law Nick Dutka, Nick Swidersky, Anton Michealycia; and Sisters in law Phyllis, Mary, Helen, and Margie Dutka.
He will be deeply missed, forever loved and remembered always by his wife Nellie (of 73 years), Sons Allan (Lucy), Jim (Rose); Daughters Karel (Ken) Isbister, Sherry (Everett) Olsen, and his cherished ten grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 15, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. from St. George’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 752-14th St. West, Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.
A private family burial service will take place at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery in Yellow Creek, Saskatchewan.
