It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Jeanette Madeline Prosper.
Jean passed away in Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck, on Saturday, May 23, 2015, with her family and friends by her side after a brief, difficult battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born in Inverness, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Susan (Googoo) Prosper.
She was 59 years old. Jean was an angel in disguise. She was an honest, straightforward, kind soul. She loved her family, friends and grandchildren and spoke of them fondly. She loved her community and often fundraised for her parish, St. Kateri Tekawitha in We’koqma’q (Waycobah). She cared for many stray animals, loved bingo and cooking.
She will be loved and missed by all.
Jean is survived by her loving family, son, Terry (Marina), Waycobah; daughters, Carol, Halifax; Gwen, Kahnawakee; Theresa, New Brunswick; Rhonda (Joe), Hamilton, Ont.; sisters, Anna (Gerard), Blues Mills; Betty, Waycobah; Muriel, Ontario; Brenda, Waycobah; brother, John (Phyllis), Waycobah; foster son, Diego.
She was predeceased by her parents; sisters, Muriel, Sandra May, Mary Josephine; brother, Howard; brother-in-law, Stanley Googoo.
Visitation will be held from 4-10 p.m. today (Monday) and from 8 a.m.-10 p.m. Tuesday in the Multi Purpose Building, 160 Reservation Rd., Waycobah First Nation. Funeral mass will be 2 p.m. Wednesday from St. Kateri Parish, Waycobah with Fr. Paul Abbass officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh.
