Alfred Edward Arnelien

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Alfred Edward Arnelien.

Alfred passed away peacefully on May 26, 2015 at the Kyle Health Care Centre with his family by his side. Alfred will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his wife of 58 years, Bjorg Arnelien; daughter, Judy (David) Hjertaas; sons, Leslie (Jenice) Arnelien; Lyle (Charlene) Arnelien, and Glen Arnelien. Alfred has five grandchildren, Angela (Neil) Struthers, Jenna (Mark) Arnelien, Adewale Alao, Temitope Alao, and Erik Arnelien; as well as one great-grandchild, Matthew Struthers.

Alfred was predeceased by his mother, Anne, in 1991; father, Olaf, in 1981; and his brothers, Lloyd in 2000 and Clarence in 2015; sisters-in-law Evelyn and Beth; and niece, Michelle Arnelien.

Alfred is survived by his brothers, Allan (Evelena), Stanley (Barbara), Kenneth (Janet), Larry (Jacqueline), and sisters, Bernie (Roy) Hesla and Gloria (Chris) Henoch.

Alfred was born in Cabri, Saskatchewan on December 19, 1925, the second eldest of seven brothers and two sisters to Olaf and Anne Arnelien. He received his education at Cabri school. Alfred enjoyed music, played in the Cabri Brass Band, Woodrow’s Western Woodchoppers, the Clearwater Church String Band and other entertainment groups in Kyle. He is fondly remembered by his family for his love of playing various instruments (guitar, accordion, violin, banjo, organ), playing billiards, and playing card games (Norwegian whist and golf). Alfred retired from farming in 1997. He also drove the school bus for 22 years. In retirement, Alfred became a master crafter working with wood and art work. For family and friends, he has made Norwegian chests and trunks, bird houses, violins, clocks, jewelry boxes, and landscape paintings. Most importantly, Alfred was always very proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandson!

A celebration of Alfred’s life was held at 2:00 p.m. at the Kyle Lutheran Church on Saturday, May 30, 2015 with Pastor Linda Hall officiating.
