NICKERSON, CHARLES
The death of Charles Nickerson CD, BEd, MEd, of Fredericton, NB, occurred on June 1, 2015 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born June 24, 1935, in Cape Forchu, Yarmouth County, NS, he was the son of the late Robert and Ethel (Amero) Nickerson.
Charles is survived by his cherished wife and best friend, Mary Elizabeth; their loving children, Margie Fox (Andrew) of Grand Bay, David Nickerson (Linda Ley) of Fredericton, Sharon Heeney (Bob Moor) of Fredericton, Chris Nickerson (Karyn) of Halifax; grandchildren Jennifer, Jessica, Joanna, Alyssa, Daniel, Holley, Jordan, Emily, Cody, Bethany, Michael and David; nine special great-grandchildren; his sisters Martha Brannen of Yarmouth, Pauline Couttreau of Yarmouth, Gladys Tougas (Robert) of Oshawa, June Stanley of Alabama; brothers, Harry Nickerson of Riverview, and Douglas Nickerson (Sherri Coldwell) of Yarmouth. Charles will also be missed by several nieces and nephews, special friend Sandy, and his ‘adopted sons’ Jason, Bryan, Joel, and Ben.
He was predeceased by his parents and sister Margaret Bain, formerly of Yarmouth, NS.
Charles loved the outdoors and being on or by the ocean. His love of hunting, fishing and sailing were only eclipsed by his love for his family. Charles was a proud member of the Canadian Military from 1954-1977 and served as a UN Peacekeeper overseas. Charles left the Military to pursue a teaching career at George St. Junior High School for 20 years. During his life he loved participating in sports including softball, volleyball, badminton, basketball and archery. His teaching career included coaching a variety of sports, teams and individuals throughout the years. He was best known for his coaching of archery athletes including NB Summer Games teams and coached numerous provincial and national champions. After retirement, Charles continued as a fulltime successful businessman until his death.
Visitation will be held at McAdam's Funeral Home on Thursday, June 4, 2015 from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm. A celebration of life service will be held at McAdam's Funeral Home on Friday, June 5, 2015 at 2pm with Pastor Jerome MacDonald officiating. A reception will be held in the adjoining room following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Wounded Warriors Canada or the Fredericton Food Bank in Charles` memory would be appreciated by the family.
