Alexander Peter Calder, 93, of Sydney, passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2015, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay, Alex was the son of the late Peter and Winnifred (Stage) Calder.
He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving overseas.
Surviving are his three daughters, Katherine Ravanello, Vancouver, B.C., Jean MacLean, Sydney and Debbie Calder (John Haughn), Pleasantville, N.S.; four sons, Alex (Bonita), Sydney, Stewart (Janet), Sydney River, Carl (Patricia), Sydney Forks, and Peter (Judy), Sydney; 20 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Alex was predeceased by his wife of 71 years, Margaret on March 7, 2015; son, Bruce; and grandson, Michael James Ravanello. The last surviving member of his immediate family, Alex was predeceased by his sisters, Margie Gardiner, Lenora Copeland and Jean MacKenzie and brothers, Robert, Albert and Clarence.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Monday, June 8th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., with a masonic service held at 6:45. A funeral service will be held in the chapel on Tuesday, June 9 at 11 a.m., with Mr. Gary Grant officiating. Interment for Alex and Margaret will take place at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. The Royal Canadian Legion will conduct a service at the end of the funeral.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
