GILMORE, HAZEL MARIE
(1926-2015)
It is with sadness that the Family of Hazel Marie Gilmore announces her passing at the Grand Manan Nursing Home on Monday June 15, 2015 with her family by her side. Hazel was eighty-eight years of age. Born at North Head, Grand Manan Island she was the daughter of the late C. Claude and Belva (Daggett) Gilmore.
Hazel was a faithful member of the North Head Baptist Church. During her early years she was very active in community activities and in many sports. Hazel was diagnosed with Polio in the fall of 1941, and spent many months in therapy, eventually learning to walk again with the help of two crutches. She worked as a telephone operator for seven years and in 1959 Hazel went to Moncton Community College for a two year course. Hazel then worked for the Province of NB in the Computer Center Office in Fredericton. She returned to Grand Manan to live in August, 1973, and became a resident of the Grand Manan Nursing Home in February, 2008.
Hazel is survived by one Brother Wilbur (Alice) Gilmore of Fredericton; one sister in law Zella Gilmore of Grand Manan, two nieces Greta (Layton) Peck of Hampton, Catherine (Randy) Hickey of Fredericton, two nephews Glenn (Margaret) Gilmore of Grand Manan, Christopher (Joan Lawrence) Gilmore of Saint John, double cousin Arthur (Joane) Gilmore of Truro, NS and extended family.
Hazel was predeceased by her parents, and her brother Jerome Gilmore (2012).
Visiting will take place at the North Head Baptist Church on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. The funeral service will take place at the church on Thursday, June 18, 2015 at 1:30 pm with Rev. David Phillips officiating. The internment will follow at the North Head Cemetery.
