Anne Winter (nee Hardy)

Anne Winter (nee Hardy)

Born: May 20th, 1934

Passed on: June 13th, 2015

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Anne Winter announces her passing at her residence on Saturday June 13, 2015 at the age of 81 years. Anne was a child in wartime England: one of the child evacuees sent to the countryside to escape air raids. Her mother, Annie (Pippet) Hardy, worked through the war in a munitions factory while her dad, Walter, was away with the Coldstream Guards. After the war they ate for many years on a dining table blackened by an incendiary bomb. Anne was, like her father, fun-loving and festive; through war, serious times, and the hard work of making a new life with a young family in the North of England and then Newfoundland. She grew roses, primulas and a riot of exotic flowers in Corner Brook and at the Howley cabin; and with the same patience and loving care, she brought up her family with unconditional love. Early in the marriage she was interested in becoming Jehovah's Witness but was dissuaded. After the children grew up she resumed her dedication to that faith with full family support. Her three loves in life were her family, her Witness friends, and her garden. She leaves to mourn her loving husband Thomas Leo Winter, her children Kathleen (Jean), Paul (Lorena), and Michael (Christine); three grandchildren: Esther, Juliette, Leo; many friends and neighbours in Corner Brook. Friends may visit Country Haven Funeral Home, 167 Country Road on Wednesday June 17, 2015 between the hours of 7-9 pm. The funeral service will take place on Thursday June 18, 2015 from the Country Haven Funeral Home Chapel at 2 pm, officiated by Peter Philip with interment to follow at the Jehovah's Witness Cemetery, North Harbour Road, Pasadena. As expressions of sympathy flowers are graciously accepted or donations may be made in Anne's memory to the Western Memorial Regional Hospital Foundation. The family guest book may be signed by visiting our website at www.country-haven.ca.
