Harold Stevens Jr

Harold Stevens Jr

Harold V. Stevens Jr., age 79, of Fenwick, passed away June 11, 2015 at the All Saints Hospital, Springhill, NS. Born in Springhill, he was the son of the late Harold and Margaret (Thompson) Stevens.
During his formative years, he participated in many sports and cadets where he enjoyed being a sharp shooter. He loved hunting and fishing, especially with his beloved grandfather, Frank Stevens, and his loving father, and brother. The place he loved most was the camp at Goose Pond, where a cabin was built by his grandfather, father and brother. There they spent many years hunting and fishing.
After graduation at Springhill High School, he began working at the payroll department of the Cumberland Railway and Coal Company. Harold's mother refused to let her sons work underground, as did his father and grandfather. His career led him to work at The Royal Bank, Amherst, but a transfer to Halifax did not suit this Cumberland County Man so he changed jobs and returned to work for Commercial Credit, which he enjoyed greatly becuase he could travel all over the maritimes and be based in Amherst, Cumberland Co. He then worked for Enamel and Heating in Sackville, NB. He eventually took a position with the Nova Scotia Provincial Government Department of Consumer Affairs as manager, based in Springhill, Amherst, Truro and once again transferred to Halifax until he could return to Cumberland County.
Two years later, he took a position with the Provincial Municipal Affairs as an assessment officer in Cumberland County. Happily he worked there until his retirement.
During his retirement, he reluctantly went with his wife Anne to Daytona Beach Florida for the winter months, all the while insisting that he would rather be in Cumberland County. When he would return in the spring, all was well in his life. He loved his solitary life at his home in Fenwick, where he would see abundant birds and wildlife. He fed the birds and nursed them back to consciousness when they ran into the living room window. He was patient with the raccoons who knocked down the bird feeders, trapping and moving them further away. He enjoyed seeing the deer in his back field and yard.
Harold was proud of his vegetable garden and loved giving his mother in law and her sister, fresh veggies when they visited.
He enjoyed moose hunting in Newfoundland, deep sea fishing in Florida, talking to anyone he could about guns, fishing, or hunting, and spending time with family and friends.
Harold will be sadly missed and remembered by his wife Anne (Bourque) of 34 years, brother David, and his nieces, Krista (Dieter) Warwick and Anne (Robert) Grant, their children, Bethany, Brianna and Brandon Warwick, and Hunter Grant.
Arrangements are under the care and guidance of A.H. Brown Funeral Home, 5 McFarlane Street, Springhill, NS (902-597-2361) At Harold's request, there will be no viewing or public ceremony. It was his wishes to be cremated, and he will be interred along side his mother, father, and grandfather in the Hillside Cemetery, Springhill. He will always rest in Cumberland County.
Harold often thought that younger people should be encouraged to enjoy hunting and fishing and would like it if you would sponsor them.
Donations in memory of Harold may be made to the Hillside Cemetery.
Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting Harold's online memorial at www.brownsfuneralhome.com or through the funeral home Facebook page.
