Lena Morehouse

MOREHOUSE, LENA MYRTLE
Lena Myrtle (Morse) Morehouse, passed peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, NB on June 17, 2015, in her 107th year. She was Charlotte County's oldest citizen. Lena was born on February 27, 1909 at White Head, Grand Manan, NB, the daughter of the late James "Roy" Morse and Geneva (Outhouse) Morse.
She is survived by her daughter: Shirley Stewart of Pennfield, NB; one sister: Flora Zwicker of Fredericton, NB; granddaughter: Sandra (Joe) Adam of Cornwallis, NS; grandson: Richard (Pauline) Stewart of Pennfield, NB; granddaughter: Marlene (Peter) Weaver of Sydney, NS; step-granddaughter: Ferne Matheson of Fall River, NS; seven great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Lena was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, Mendell Morehouse; one son: Clayton Morehouse; four sisters: Bessie Morse, Vera Hawkins, Mildred Russell and Phyllis Hawkins; one great-grandson: Jordan Stewart; one step-grandson: Mark Raymond; one son-in-law Kenneth Stewart; and one daughter-in-law Barbara Raymond.
Lena, with her husband and family lived at White Head, Grand Manan, NB until 1939 when they moved to Blacks Harbour, NB where both she and Mendell worked for Connors Bros. Limited. They lived there until they moved to Pennfield, NB into their new home, built by Mendell in the 1950's, where she resided until her passing. While at Connors Bros., she was employed as a sardine packer for a number of years. Following that she was employed as a switchboard operator at the Fundy Hospital, Blacks Harbour, NB until her retirement in 1971. She was an avid nature lover who especially loved bird watching and took part, with her husband, in the annual provincial bird counts and reporting thereon. She loved camping, fishing and hunting. She was a longtime member of the Blacks Harbour United Baptist Church, Blacks Harbour, NB and a former Sunday School Teacher there. She will be sadly missed by her family and many friends.
Arrangements in the care of the St. George Funeral Home (755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George, NB. Resting at the funeral home with visiting on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The service will be held from the funeral home chapel on Sunday at 2:30 pm with Rev. Grant Alcorn officiating followed by the interment in the Pennfield Rural Cemetery.
In Lena's memory, donations to a charity of the donor's choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.
