It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Theresa Loretta 'Hubba' (Mills) Ryan, who passed peacefully while in care at the Victoria General Hospital.
Born and raised in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late John and Maydell (Jessome) Mills. She completed her Certified Nursing Assistant program at the Nova Scotia Sanatorium in Kentville in 1966. She then worked in Salem, Mass., and then the Halifax Infirmary for many years before choosing to be a stay-at-home mother to Theresa and Brendan. Loretta later returned to work at Armview Estates. Volunteerism played an important role throughout her life. She was a dedicated member of the St. Agnes Church Altar Society for 30 years, a Girl Guide leader, a Catholic Women’s League member at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, and a recreation volunteer at Melville Gardens. She enjoyed many trips around the world with Faye and Zondra.
She leaves behind to mourn, her husband, Bill and children, Theresa (Jason) Jennings, and Brendan (Mel), and grandchildren, Rebecca and Luke Jennings. One of 14 children, she is survived by, Kay (Edward) Forrest, Sydney Mines, Charlie (Florrie), Miminegash, P.E.I., Terry (Linda), Mississauga, Ont., Harley (Mary), Sydney Mines, Doug (Heather), Winnipeg, Man., Ann Henwood, Burlington, Ont., Brian, Sydney Mines, George (Rennie), Sydney Mines, Gail (Frankie) LeBlanc, Sydney Mines, Lynn (Mike) LaRocque, Elliott Lake, Ont., Donald (Jennie), Sydney Mines, Billy (Frank), Sydney, and Rob (Lisa), Oshawa, Ont.
The family would like to send a special thank you to Dr. Karen Anderson and all of the staff on 7A at the Victoria General Hospital site, particularly nurses, Nicole and Marlese. Also gratitude is extended to Victorian Order of Nurses, in particular Brenda and Nicole for their ongoing care.
