Wally Giesbrecht

Memorial service for Wally Berny Giesbrecht, held on June 20, 2015 at Zion Mennonite Church with Reverend Herman Wiebe officiating. Wally was born on May 26, 1956 to Bernard and Amanda Giesbrecht in Swift Current, SK. He attended school at Wymark School, O.M. Irwin and S.C. Comprehensive High School. He received his Autobody Journeymen Certificates and was employed at Giles Midtown Autobody for over 40 years. Wally was grateful for the learning opportunities offered to him by Lloyd and Sandy Giles during this time. Wally married Lois Broesky on May 31, 1975 in Swift Current, SK and they became proud parents of sons Robert on August 8, 1977 and Aaron on August 18, 1980. Wally had a passion for antique vehicles and he restored and modified many cars during his life. Each car or truck required months of sketching, planning, searching for parts and hours upon hours of labor to complete. There was always filling, sanding, painting and cleaning to be done. Wally quite often left a signature on the cars he restored and one of his favorite things was to paint "ghost lace" on the interior or exterior of the vehicle. He also enjoyed camping and fishing with his boys. Stock car and snowmobile racing was also one of Wally's pastimes. He raced in Rosetown, Swift Current and competed in numerous invitational racing meets all over Saskatchewan and Alberta from 1976 to 1996.
Wally and Lois enjoyed travelling and they made several trips to Las Vegas, South Dakota, Radium Hot Springs, British Columbia, Manitoba and Minnesota. Spring and summer were always busy with swap meets and car shows throughout B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan and the U.S. Wally always enjoyed, and made time to chat with anyone they met on their travels.
Wally was also a member of the Elrose Volunteer Fire Department for several years, and although he disliked yard work, the house and yard were always well maintained.
Wally is survived by his wife and best friend of 39 years Lois, sons Rob and Aaron, mother-in-law Susie Franson of Grunthal MB, sister Sheila (Leonard) Klassen of Swift Current, SK - nephew Darren (Tia) Klassen, niece Darlene (Terry) Klassen, niece Danelle Klassen, brother Ken (Denise) Giesbrecht of Wymark, SK - niece Emma Giesbrecht, sister-in-law Norma (Delbert) Koop of Steinbach, MB - nephew Jason Ludke, nephew Dana Ludke, niece Corrie (Jeff) Reimer, nephew Steve (Wendy) Iwanczuk, nephew Rick (Leah) Iwanczuk, niece Joanne (Kelly) Robin, brother-in-law Jack Broesky of Nipawin, SK - nephew Philip Broesky, sister-in-law Dora (Bill) Heinrichs of Swift Current, SK - nephew Travis (Jolissa) Heinrichs, brother-in-law Leonard (Julie) Broesky of Nipawin, SK - nephew Jonathan Broesky, niece Stephanie Broesky and many extended family, friends and colleagues.
He was pre-deceased by his mom Amanda Giesbrecht (Sept. 1996), his dad Bernard Giesbrecht (March 2007), brother Marvin in infancy (July 1963), father-in-law Martin Broesky (Sept. 1978), sister-in-law Viola Iwanczuk (April 2009), nephew Shane Heinrichs (Sept. 2006), niece Candice Ludke (April 2012) along with grandparents and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Wally went missing in North Battleford, SK in the early morning of July 6, 2014. After days of searching along with missing person posters and RCMP investigation, no information has come forward and nothing has been recovered. He will always be missed and in our hearts and
thought until we meet again.
