Passed in: Glace Bay
Passed on: June 23rd, 2015
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother after a brief illness on Tuesday, June 23, 2015, at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay, Norma was the daughter of Alexander and Effie MacIsaac. She graduated from the Glace Bay General Hospital as a Registered Nurse and worked her entire nursing career in Glace Bay. She enjoyed many years of retirement following work; she spent time traveling, gardening and spent time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was very active in the ladies auxiliary at the Glace Bay Hospital and Warden Church. She was a support and friend to all who knew her. She and her sisters were affectionately known as the “Golden Girls”, she loved the time they spent together.
She was predeceased by her husband, Burte Curnew.
Norma leaves behind four children, Jim (Lorna), Douglas (Carol), Bruce (Cora) and Dorothy (Don) MacAskill, as well as her brothers and sisters, Robert (Lillian) MacIsaac, Isabel (Butch) MacDonald, Sandra (Junior) MacDonald, Anna (Weldon) Smith and Alex (Junior) Crouse and her grandchildren, Stephanie, Jamie, Joey, Cheryl Christa, Breanna and Melissa, and several great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was also predeceased by three brothers, Stewart, Norman and Donnie and two sisters, Eva Whidden and Myra Darroch.
Norma will be missed by many friends she made over the years.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Patten Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Sunday, June 28th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral service will be held at Warden United Church on Monday, June 29th at 11 a.m.
Donations in memory of Norma can be made to Warden United Church or to the Glace Bay Palliative Care Fund.
Norma’s family would like to thank everyone for their kindness and support. We would especially like to thank Dr. Jamie MacLean and the staff of 3 South/West at the Glace Bay Hospital for their care and respect for her wishes at the end of her life.
God saw you were getting tired,
and a cure was not to be;
so he put his arms around you
and whispered “Come with Me”
