We, the family of the late Jack Tighe, are heart broken to announce the peaceful passing of our wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle.
John Wallace 'Jack' Tighe, of Olive Street, New Waterford passed away peacefully at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital July 8, 2015 at the age of 86.
Born in New Victoria, Jack was the son of the late John and Lena (Turnbull) Tighe.
He retired from Cape Breton Development Corp. after more than 40 years working at 12 Colliery and retiring from Lingan Mine as an overman. Jack served proudly the people of New Waterford as a town councillor for many years. He was also involved with Combined Christmas Giving, serving as one of the founding organizers and dad stayed very involved until recent months. Jack was also dedicated to his Parish of St. Leonard, sitting on parish council for many years at the former St. Agnes parish.
A true Toronto Maple Leafs and Blue Jays fan, he spent many hours watching both of his beloved teams always donning a hat of either.
Dad is survived by his daughters, Barbara, Colleen (Wayne), Madonna and his son, Brian; special friend, Minnie Livingstone; niece, Willena, whom he thought of as another daughter; grandchildren, Lanna, Richelle, Lisa, Matthew, Laura, Jackson and Brialee; five great-grandchildren, Tucker, Parker, Cal, Ellie and baby Kate; sisters, Verna (Horace), Anna, Catherine, Lovie (John), Agnes, Nita (Winston); brothers, Harry (Stella), Vince (Lorraine) and Tony (Elaine); in-laws, Billy, Colleen, Polly, Mary and Colleen and mom's family Garfield (Betty), Barb (Stan) and Marie.
Besides his parents, dad was predeceased by his loving wife, our mom, Carmel (Parr) and his beloved daughter, Darlene Ashburn (John). He was also predeceased by his brothers, Tommy, Eddie, James and Francie and his sisters, Victoria and Willena; in-laws, Mike, Don, Bud, Ross, John, Bob, Richard and Al.
Visitation for Jack will be held today (Friday, July 10) from 6-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will take place Saturday, July 11, 2015 at 10 a.m in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Reg Currie officiating. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the Army, Navy, Airforce, Unit 217, New Waterford.

Our father was lovingly known to many as a 'Gentle Giant' or a 'Big Teddy Bear', but we will simply remember him as Da, Papa, and Old Papa.
