KELLY, SISTER NORA ADELE (SISTER M. LEANORA)
The death of Sr. Nora Kelly occurred at the Ruth Ross residence on Saturday July 11, 2015. Sister Kelly was born in Saint John, New Brunswick, a daughter of the late Joseph and Nora (Griffin) Kelly.
She is the last remaining member of her immediate family. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by two brothers, Louis Kelly and Francis Kelly; eight sisters, Mrs. Mary Catherine Dreist, Mrs. Helen Sweeney, Mrs. Agnes Callaghan, Miss Margaret Kelly, Mrs. Genevieve McNulty, Mrs. Dorothy Barrett, Mary Constance Kelly (infant) and Constance Evelyn Kelly (infant).
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Nora Kelly entered the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception on September 8, 1937. After forty-two years of teaching, Sr. Nora retired in 1983. During her teaching career she taught at St. Patrick’s Orphanage, Silver Falls, NB & St. Patrick’s School, Saint John West. Sister Nora was the Principal of St. Bernard’s School in Moncton, NB from 1946 to 1972 and then became the Principal of Mountain Road School, Moncton, NB in 1972 until her retirement from teaching in 1983. She remained in Moncton and resided at St. Bernard’s Convent and continued to serve in various ministries in the Moncton area, which included Religious Education Coordinator of St. Bernard’s Parish. Sister Nora moved to St. Vincent’s Convent in Saint John, New Brunswick in 1998 after the closure of St. Bernard’s Convent. She currently resided at Ruth Ross Residence in Saint John. She celebrated her 100th Birthday in 2015.
Resting at Ruth Ross Residence with visiting on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm, with a Prayer Vigil at 7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Carmel Chapel at Ruth Ross Residence on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at 10:00am. Interment will take place in the Sisters of Charity Plot at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Arrangements are under the Care of Fitzpatrick’s Funeral Home, 100 Waterloo Street (634-1965) fitzpatrickfh.com
