Passed in: Glace Bay
Passed on: July 15th, 2015

Wednesday, June 15, 2015 at 2 a.m. a beautiful angel went home to heaven. Kelly Anne MacQuarrie was born on Oct. 4, 1988, to parents Andrea (nee Clevett) and Calum MacQuarrie of Glace Bay.
Beloved sister of Ian, she was 26 years old. Kelly faced many challenges during her short life due to illness. She faced these challenges with dignity, grace and courage and was a shining example to all who knew her. This last challenge proved to be too much for her to overcome, but all through it she worried and cared more about others than she did for herself. Her love for all her family was tangible. She was a hero to look up to for mom, dad and Ian. Never complaining but willing to do anything she had to so that she could get well. We are so privileged to have had her in our lives even for such a short time.
During her brief time here on earth, she was a member of Sparks, Brownies and Girl Guides in Glace Bay. In elementary school she was on the Wildcats basketball team but due to illness she was unable to continue to play. She then became a team manger helping out where she could. She was a faithful alter server at St. Mary’s Church for a number of years and assisted Rev. Vernon Reid at the altar in a special role created just for her. She graduated from Glace Bay High School in 2007. She worked as a student feeder at Taigh Na Mara Nursing Home for three years, the Sears Store in Glace Bay and finally at Glace Bay Chiropractic for her cousin Kyle.
Survived by her mom, dad and brother Ian (Kristina) and special companion “Angel”, her beloved dog who was always at her side, paternal grandmother Mary MacQuarrie, aunts, uncles, Marilyn and Rannie Whalen (Dawn, Rannie and Janice), Jim and Joan MacQuarrie (Keith and Jan), Ann and Earl Morgan (Kyle, Arlie Beth and Gavin), Isabel and Gary MacDonald (Ross and Neal) and Kathy and Stuart MacAulay, who were like her second parents (Caelin and Alex) as well as other relatives and many friends.
She was predeceased by maternal grandparents Andrew and Ella Clevett and paternal grandfather Lincoln MacQuarrie, uncle Stuart Clevett and cousin Kimberley Whalen.
Visitation will take place from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Patten Funeral Home on Friday, July 17 with a funeral service taking place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 18 at St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Glace Bay. Interment to follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

As we say goodbye to our beautiful girl we realize the lessons she has taught us. Never give up on life and relish the love of family, as she did. Goodbye our darling Kelly, until we meet again.
