Thomas Chartrand

CHARTRAND, Thomas “Tom”
It is with great sadness that the Chartrand family announces the sudden and unexpected passing of Tom Chartrand at the age of 62 years, in his home in Whitecourt, AB, on July 18, 2015.
He is loving remembered by his wife of 18 years, Renée; sons, Darcy (Kelsey) of Whitecourt, AB, Daryl (Stephanie) of Whitecourt, AB and Davey of Sylvan Lake, AB; their mother, Brenda of Emma Lake, SK; grandchildren, Ashton, Natalie, Daylen and Damon; mother, Rose of Prince Albert, SK; siblings, Bill of Kelowna, BC, Jerry (Darlene) of Whitecourt, AB, Bob of Prince Albert, SK, Liz Chartrand of Edmonton, AB, Marie Chartrand (Brad Prevost) of Regina, SK; Dan of Prince Albert, SK and Christine (Merril) Wozniak of Glenavon, SK; in-laws, Julien (Isabel) Dalpe of Chitek Lake, SK; brother-in-law, Marcel (Karen) Dalpe of Hudson Bay, SK; sisters-in-law, Monique (Alan) Treiber of Bassano, AB and Suzanne (Corey) Kolenosky of Creighton, SK; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Tom was predeceased by his infant son, Daley in 1983 and his father, Jim Chartrand in 1983.
Tom grew up on a farm in the Davis area, five miles south of Prince Albert. He enjoyed playing sports and in later years became an avid fan of watching hockey, baseball and golf. Tom played fastball as a kid, winning Provincials at age eleven with his brother, Jerry and his friends. Later, Tom played Slo Pitch on numerous teams, including family teams, with his mother, Rose, his brothers and his son, Darcy, in Prince Albert. Tom really enjoyed playing Senior hockey with the P. A. Buckeyes, where he was known as the “Dave Semenko” of the team, as he was very good at his job! Tom, being exceptionally strong, was an excellent arm wrestler, beating a world champion in a competition in Prince Albert, but in a later round ended up breaking his arm. He then decided to give up arm wrestling and stuck to softball after that. Tom loved watching his boys play hockey in their younger years, and more recently had become an avid Wolverines fan, and remained a loyal Oilers fan to the end.
Tom learned the trucking and construction business from his father, and he also worked at the Burns meat packing plant for several years. Tom worked in the log and gravel hauling business in Prince Albert, and when trucking, he often stopped at Trapper’s Cabin in Duck Lake, SK, a restaurant owned by Renée. This is where they met and fell in love. They eventually moved to Whitecourt to continue that business with his son, Darcy. His buddies nicknamed them Sanford and Son, as they were also in the scrap metal business.
Tom took great pride in the maintenance of his semi trucks and trailers. He was also very happy to have acquired a Harley Davidson and a pontoon boat.
Tom truly enjoyed sharing coffee and/or a beer with his friends. He was quick witted and loved telling stories and jokes.
He loved his soul mate, Renée, his boys, his grandchildren, his family, and his ever loyal German Shepherd, Dusty. He also loved his many trips to Las Vegas.
