Mary Margaret MacEachern

Passed in: Glendale
Passed on: July 17th, 2015

Mary MacEachern, 73, of Glendale passed away on Friday, July 17, 2015 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney with her family by her side.
Mary had a difficult year and through it all remained positive and kept her sense of humour. Mary was accepting of her journey.
Mary was a loving wife to Donald her true love, the matriarch of her family, a strong giving sister, a kind and generous aunt and grand aunt, an educator, an avid volunteer and a person of unwavering faith.
Mary grew up in Beaver Cove, daughter of the late Joseph Allen and Margaret Ann MacMullin. She attended Normal College in Truro and then began her lengthy teaching career. Mary taught in Millville, Boisdale, Princeville, Port Hawkesbury both elementary and senior elementary and Orangedale. Mary retired after 34 years of service.
Anyone who encountered Mary knows she was a believer in fostering and modeling strong academics, citizenship, volunteerism and faith in the lives of her students, her family and friends.
Mary worked hard to support her community. Mary worked with the Glendale Fiddlers Festival in the early years and then with the Glendale Concerts in the years that followed. She played a key role in the matters of the parish for most of her life in Glendale.
Mary never forgot a birthday or an anniversary. She loved gardening with Donald and had a very green thumb. She loved to share their vegetables and preserves. She was a talented tole painter, loved to have a reason to let the elementary teacher in her decorate, whether it be a community hall function or a shower for someone. She wrote many addresses for many people over the years. Mary had a way to walk you through the good and bad with a rhyme or two and leave you feeling happy in the end.
Mary was an active supporter of community events. She attended her weekly bingo games, loved a good crib tournament and enjoyed a swim at the beach in Beaver Cove with her beach buddies — her sister and sister-in-law. Mary and Donald were regular attendees of summer concerts around the Island and could often be found at Brook Village for the Monday night square dances.
Mary was always in-tune with her family. She was there to help in whatever way was needed without exception.
Mary is survived by her husband Donald Angus, her sister Sally (Rowe) Rudderham,Westmount; brothers, Jimmy (Lori) MacMullin, Beaver Cove, Joe (Sandra) MacMullin,Frenchvale; sisters, Dannette (Guy) Chapados Mississauga, Ont., Delores MacIntyre (Kevin Currie), Beaver Cove; brothers, Sandy MacMullin, Sydney, and Frank (Janet) MacMullin, Boisdale; sister-in-law Maisie (Robert) MacDonald, Truro; many nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and nephews and one uncle, Duncan Cameron, Port Hawkesbury.
