Passed peacefully away on Friday, July 24th, 2015, Joseph (Gerard) Hynes of Colliers - Age 85 years. Predeceased by his wife Genevieve; his grand-daughter Kathryn; parents: William and Catherine; brothers: Greg, Frank, and Ron; and sisters: Rita and Bella. Gerard was born on February 4th, 1930 at St. Brendan's, Bonavista Bay, a place that remained near and dear to him throughout his life. He worked as a Marine Engineer with Marine Atlantic until his retirement in 1990. He was a faithful member of Immaculate Conception Parish, an avid gardener, a lover of all things marine and all things musical, and he was a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus, Cabot Assembly. He leaves, to mourn his passing, his daughters: Judy (Bill) Kennedy, Anita (Gene Legge), Brenda (Joe) Grzetic, Patricia, Marlene (Steve Balay), Anne Marie (Mike McGrath), and Bernadette; son Bill (Bridget); 18 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; his brother Bert (Geraldine); special friend Jane Dalton and her family; friend and caregiver Marg Foley; sisters-in-law: Helen (Terry) Boone, Mary Hynes, and Helen Hynes; many nieces and nephews; relatives and friends. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Saint Luke's Home for their care. Resting at Flaherty's Memorial Funeral Home, 70 Conception Bay Highway, Conception Harbour, with visitation on Monday, July 27th from 1pm - 4pm and 6pm - 9pm and Tuesday, July 28th from 1pm - 4pm and 6pm - 9pm. Funeral Mass will take place on Wednesday, July 29th, 2015, at 10:30am from Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, Colliers. Interment to follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Colliers. We thank God for the gift of his life and the blessing of time spent with him. May he rest in the peace of Christ and the Blessed Mother, Mary.
