It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Everett Samuel Horne, father, grandfather, and godfather on July 31, 2015 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born in Glace Bay, NS on October 14, 1926, he was the son of the late Samuel and Margaret (Grant) Horne.
Everett was a coal miner at the age of 17 in Glace Bay. He joined the military (Black Watch Corp.) in 1954 and retired in 1976. He then joined the commissionaires in 1979 until 1984. Everett spent most of his free time out in his workshop which was his favorite place to be along with the kitchen. He was also an avid sportsmen who loved to hunt and fish.
Everett is survived by his wife, Viola (Vera) of Horne of Waterville, NB; daughters, Elizabeth Paul of Oromocto, NB, Marie Spence (Brian) of Barrie, ON, and Marg Joyce (Steven) of NS; sister, Evelyn Whitney of Glace Bay, NS; brother-in-law, Clarence (Timer) Atwin of Oromocto, NB; nephews, George Horne(Alice) and Jimmy Whitney (Ann-Marie) both of Glace Bay, NS; grandchildren, Leo paul, Chad Horne (heather), and Chet Horne (Shannon; great-grandchildren, Samuel Sacobie, Miley Lou Paul, and Samantha Horne. Everett will also be missed by his goddaughter Mary Paul.
In addition to his parents, Everett was predeceased by his son, Samuel Horne and by his loving sister, Ethel Horne.
Visitation will be held at the Oromocto Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at 12:00 pm with Fr. Antonio Reyes as celebrant. A reception will take place in the church hall following Mass. Interment will take place at a later date.
