James Cannon

CANNON, JAMES NATHAN
It is with heavy hearts the family of James Nathum “Jimmy” Cannon, announce his peaceful passing on Thursday, August 6, 2015 surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Saint John, NB, on October 29, 1948, he was the loving husband for 49 years to Barbara (LaPierre) Cannon, and son of the late Alexander and Evelyn (Kelly) Cannon.
Jimmy was a very hardworking, generous, well respected and easy-going man. After graduating from Simonds High School, Jimmy attended community college, graduating in 1966 from the Nursing Orderly Course where he worked at the Saint John General Hospital for 5 years before going out on his own. He was a licensed Truck and Trailer mechanic and owner of Cannon Shell. He was also the owner and operator of Cannons Trucking, working with Debly Enterprises, founder and lifetime member of the Southern New Brunswick and New Brunswick Truckers Associations, and worked for CN Marine for over 20 years. Jimmy was a member of Operating Engineers where he worked on the pipeline as well. Jimmy was a very skilled man and chose to work these careers simultaneously, rather than moving from one to another. At one point, he started moving houses from location to location. He was very loyal and loved by many. Jimmy loved the outdoors, and enjoyed taking long drives through Petersville where he lived as a young child.
Family was the most important thing in his life and spending time with his children, grand-children and great-grandchildren is what made him the happiest in the world. Taken much too soon, Jimmy will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife Barbara, Jimmy is survived by his sons; James Jr. (Lori) and Jason (Tanya), and daughter Jennifer (Paul Robichaud). As the second eldest child of 19, Jimmy is also survived by ten brothers; Elmer, Wayne, Gregory, Joe (Anna), Art (Christine), Gary (Nancy), John (Michelle), Ron (Kristal), George (Karen) and Kenny (Tammy), seven sisters; Florence Dempster (Donald), Elizabeth LeBlanc(Mike) , Gail Cannon (Donald), June Dunlop (Kent), April Firlotte (Bob), Pam Crowley (Shawn) and Crystal Cannon, his seven grandsons; Jimmy Lee (Tara), Brad (Britney), Shawn, Jason (Hillary), Christopher, Nicholas, Benjamin, and his three great grandchildren; Keri Lynn and Dani Anne and Jack Lloyd, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins.
Along with his parents, Jimmy was predeceased by his brother Donald, nephew Scott Dempster, and brother-in-law Leonard LaPierre.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation being held on Sunday and Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8. A funeral mass will be held from Jimmy’s church, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church (4347 Loch Lomond Road) on Tuesday, August 11 at 12pm of which he was an active member.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to express their gratitude to Extra Mural and Joan’s Home Care for the kindness and compassion they showed to our beloved Jimmy.
Donations made in memory of Jimmy to the ALS Society or to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by his family. To sign the guestbook or to send a message of condolence please visit www.fundyfuneralhome.com
