Harry Richard Barrington, 95, of New Waterford, passed away peacefully in the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital on Aug. 6, 2015, with his family at his side.
Born in Whitney Pier, he was a son of the late John R. Barrington and Mary Ann (Sparling) Barrington and a loving father to sons, Harry (Pat), Stevensville, Ont., Lennie (Gail), New Waterford, Jim (Patricia) Smith, Pictou County, N.S. and daughters, Joan (Tom Stevens), Dartmouth, Marion (Phonse Brenna), New Waterford and Terry MacKenzie, Dartmouth; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Karin, Burnt River, Ont.; numerous nieces and nephews.
Harry was predeceased by his wife, Gertrude 'Googie'; son, Gregory and infant granddaughter, Joan.
He was the last surviving relative of his immediate family of three brothers Frank, York and Jack and four sisters, Hilda, Elsie, Marion and Mary.
Harry retired from Sydney Steel Plant after 44 years of service. He was an avid skater and gardener as well as a devoted parishoner of St. Leonard's Church. He lived a life of service to others and had a great love of family and friends.
Visitation will be held Sunday, Aug. 9th from 5-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will take place Monday, Aug. 10th at 2 p.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, New Waterford, with a luncheon to follow at the Army, Navy, Airforce, Unit 217, New Waterford.
