Simon "Cy" Stein

STEIN, SIMON "CY"
Simon "Cy" Stein died in Moncton on Friday, August 7, 2015 after a brief illness.
Cy lived a long and rich life. An only child who lost his father when he was very young, Cy was a self-starter and comfortable in his own company. He served in the army and after the war he and his mother Sarah opened a small coffee shop and later a restaurant on High Street.
From that modest beginning, Cy and Sarah went on to open Cy's Seafood Restaurant on Main Street. During a run that lasted more than 50 years, Cy's was the social hub for generations of families, political leaders, business people, tourists and touring rock bands. Cy's wouldn't have been the success it was without a dedicated staff - some of whom worked alongside him for decades. They celebrated reunions with Cy after he retired.
Cy recognized his good fortune when he met and married Nancy, his constant companion of the past 40 years. Their marriage was a true partnership as they worked together, travelled, debated politics, and until recently, enjoyed winter escapes to Florida.
Cy's resilience was tested when his beloved youngest daughter, Rochelle, died of cancer.
He was a caring and supportive father to his daughter, Judy and son, Raymond. He took pleasure in talking about the restaurant business with his son-in-law, Carl.
Cy was a deeply private man who needed little company aside from his family's. He did not want a fuss made around his death which is entirely consistent with the way he lived his life. We have respected his wishes. Instead of a service of remembrance, we are left with a lifetime of memories of a decent, hard-working and loving man.
Arrangements entrusted to Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995). Online condolences at

"Nobody Knows It But Me"
There's a place that I travel
When I want to roam
And nobody knows it but me.

The roads don't go there
And the signs stay home
And nobody knows it but me.

It's far far away
And way way afar
It's over the moon and the sea

And wherever you're going
That's wherever you are
And nobody knows it but me.
