TIBBEL, Douglas MacTavish -94, of The Mira Long Term Care Centre, Truro, and formerly of Meadowville, Pictou County, passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2015 in The Mira. Born in Unity, Saskatchewan, he was the son of the late Thomas and Elizabeth (MacTavish) Tibbel. Doug was a resident of Meadowville most of his life. He worked as a Millwright for the East River Planning Commission, from where he retired. Doug enjoyed woodworking, old time music, dancing, tug-of-war and spending time with his family. Surviving are his children, Jim (Joanne), Mississauga; Phyllis (Ken) Glenney, Mississauga; Phil, Salt Springs; Brent, Oromocto; Rick (Patti), Greenwood; Darrell (Sherlyn), Hammonds Plains; and Tom (Karri), Salt Springs; step-children, Gene Dyke, New Glasgow; Calvin Dyke, Vancouver; Nola (Mike) Edwards, Westville; 19 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Doug was predeceased by his wife, Beatrice (Mayo); daughter, Anne (Robert) Orr; sisters, Marguerite and Florence; great granddaughter, Savannah. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 3-5 and 7-9 PM Monday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral will take place 2:00 PM Tuesday from the Scotsburn United Church, with Michael Simmons officiating. Burial will be in the Bethel Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Donations in Doug’s memory may be made to the S.P.C.A. or charity of one’s choice.
