It is with great sadness, the family of Joan Elizabeth (Gilliland) Fowler, of Hampton, NB announces her death which occurred on Saturday, August 15, 2015, at her residence. She was born on June 5, 1938 in Kingston, NB, the daughter of the late Leonard and Margaret (Burns) Gilliland.
Joan is survived by her daughters Kate Fowler, Mary Fowler of Campobello, Alexandra Barrett (Rev. David) of Quispamsis, Barb Dobbin (Tim) of Kiersteadville, and Sue Foster (Jeff) of Ottawa, ON; sisters Margaret MacDonald of Halifax, NS, Alice Sinclair (Bill) of Alberta and Anne Boom of Salisbury ; brothers Father George Gilliland of PEI, Leonard Gilliland (Marion) of Kingston, and Danny Gilliland of Alberta; nine grandchildren, Emma , Ryan, and Molly Fowler-Ross, Hannah, Elizabeth and Rachel Barrett, Justin, Malorie and Emily Dobbin; great granddaughter Madison Snodgrass and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, grandson Aaron Douglas Dobbin and brothers Jim, David and Andy Gilliland.
Joan was an avid golfer, well known for her uncanny ability of keeping score for a foursome in her head. She was a respected insurance professional, finishing out her career with Angus Miller Ltd in 1998. Joan was also a member of the Hampton Community Club where she volunteered as a librarian.
In keeping with Joan’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB, is entrusted with arrangements. No visiting will take place however a memorial service will be held on Wednesday August 19, 2015 at 11:00am from Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Hammond River with Archdeacon David Barrett officiating.
