It is with deep sorrow and sadness that we announce the death of Sgt. Edgar LaFosse of Bobcaygeon, Ont., which occurred with his family by his side at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre on Aug. 13, 2015.
Ed is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Sheila (May); his son, Jeff (Katie) and their children, Chloe and Matthew; his daughter, Angela (Tavis) and their children, Teagan and Graydon; mother, Helena; sister, Mary (Sandy) Hillier and brother Guy.
Ed was predeceased by his father, Edgar; mother-in-law, Murtle; father-in-law, Freeman and sister-in-law, Heather LaFosse.
He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
Born in Port Aux Basques, Nfld., Ed was raised in North Sydney. In 1966 he moved to Ontario and served 35 years with the Toronto Police Service. Ed retired in 2001 as Sergeant of his division. Ed remained very active during his retirement. He acted as Court Service Officer in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, ByLaw Enforcement Officer for the York and Durham Regional Health Departments, and Chairman of the Board of Monitors for the Central East Correction Centre.
Following his retirement, Ed and Sheila moved to the town of Bobcaygeon where they have thrived. Ed took a leadership role in the community, and in 2008 was elected and served as the president of the Victoria Place Community.
The pride and joy of Ed’s life were his four grandchildren, who gave him the apt nickname of “awesome Poppy”.
Ed enjoyed his life, his family, and had countless friends. He had a long, hard-fought and courageous battle with cancer. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the many wonderful doctors and staff who treated Ed. As well, a special thank you to all those who visited, sent flowers, cards, food, and helped in so many ways.
Funeral services will take place in Ed’s community of Bobcaygeon on Aug. 20th.
