TRAVIS, Donald Ernest – age 73, of Pleasant Valley, Yarmouth Co., N.S. passed away at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital on August 19, 2015. Born in Carleton on October 21, 1941 he was a son to the late Paul and Bessie (Longmire) Travis. Donald was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many. During his working years Donald started driving tractor trailers for Sanbornes and then drove a school bus until he retired. In his spare time he loved to compete in oxen pulls and then moved on to horse pulls. He had a great love of his two horses “Toby” and “Tom” and of FORD trucks. Donald was also an avid baseball fan and loved the New York Yankees. He also loved to spend time with his grandchildren. Donald is survived by his loving wife Constance (Hanf); daughters, Sheila (Rod) Olson; Joanne (James) Travis; sons, Brian (Elizabeth); Steven (Michelle); brothers, Paul “Pug” (Brenda); and grandchildren, Terri, Erland, Jessica, Cassandra, Halie, Keegan, Ryder, Brooke, Braden; as well as nieces and nephews. Besides his parents Donald was predeceased by his sister, Patsy. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation was held Friday, August 21, 2015 from 7-9 p.m. in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service was held Saturday, August 22, at 2 p.m. in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Mr. Stephen Bourque officiated. Interment followed in the Carleton Cemetery. Family flowers only please. A special thank you to Dr Green, and the nurses on 3 south, your kindness and compassion was greatly appreciated. Donations in memory may be made the Yarmouth 4H Club.
