It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Buddy Hay, 81, of Glace Bay, at the Glace Bay Hospital on Aug. 24, 2015, with his family by his bedside.
Born in Glace Bay, on Sept. 5, 1934, he was the son of the late Thomas and Agnes (Macleod) Hay.
Thomas married Jean Murphy in 1957, and they resided in Glace Bay their entire lives.
Buddy began working at the age of 15 in the coal industry and eventually became supervisor of the machinists at the Glace Bay Central Shops. After retirement, he spent most of his time on the Mira River. Buddy was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Surviving are his daughters, Karen, Sydney; sons, Tommy (Michelle), New Waterford, Bill, Glace Bay; grandchildren, Phillip, Andrew and Olivia Jean; sisters, Nina, Jeanne and brother, Art.
Besides his parents, Buddy was predeceased by his wife, Jean; sister, Marion and brother, Sandy.
As per Buddy's wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation has taken place under the direction and care of V. J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Interment will take place at a later date in Oakfield Cemetery, Mira.
Donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Many thanks to Dr. Ley, Ann and Lynn for their care and support. To the staff and physicians at the Renal Dialysis Unit and Clinic, Dr. Hewlit, Dr. Yueng, Dr. Thanamayoolan, Dr. Rex Dunn and Dr. Bedard and to the compassionate staff at the Glace Bay General third west. God bless you all.
