NORTHRUP, RUSSELL GRANT
Russell Grant Northrup “Russ” passed away suddenly from heart failure on Saturday, August 29, 2015. Born in Gunningsville, NB, on March 30, 1926, he was the son of the late Murray and Blanche (MacKenzie) Northrup.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Shirley (Barisa) Northrup; one son, Richard (Joyce) of Edmonton, AB; one daughter, Laurie McSweeney (Jeff) of Philadelphia, PA, USA; one step son, Ronald Pellerin; one step- daughter, Yvonne Pellerin, both of Moncton, NB; three step-grandchildren, Alec, Kayleigh and Kevin Pellerin. Also, he leaves behind two sisters, Norma Donovan of London, ON and Janet McGuire of Riverview, NB; many cousins, nephews and nieces.
Russ was predeceased by his first wife, Dorothy James and his youngest sister, Audrey Kyle (Dean) of Victoria, BC.
Russ had a full life as a paratrooper in World War II. He was a Civil Engineer for over 50 years, designing many buildings and bridges; notably The Ottawa Air Terminal Building, The Centennial Building in Fredericton, NB and the Chatham Centennial Bridge.
Besides his professional accomplishments, Russ was active in sports. From playing hockey with Junior A’s in Moncton, varsity hockey at UNB and curling on the NB Senior Team in 1980, 81 and 82. He was past president of the Beaver Curling Team. His favorite passion was fly fishing for salmon and trout, fishing on many NB Rivers. The Big Salmon and Upper Southwest Miramichi Rivers were his favorite. He even tied his own flies!
Russ will be missed by many and to honour him, a time to Celebrate and Share Memories of Russ’s Life will be held at Fergusons Funeral Home Reception Centre, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995), on Thursday, September 3, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
In Russ’s memory, donations can be made to a memorial of the donor’s choice.
