With sadness, we the family of Richard Ian MacPherson, 88, of Cusack Drive, Sydney, announce his passing on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2015, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Whitney Pier, he was a son of the late Emerson and Sadie (MacLeod) MacPherson.
In 1992, he retired from MacIntyre Chev Olds. Ian was a former member of St. Andrews United Church, a member of the Sydney Y’s Mens Club and a longtime fan of the Cape Breton Oilers and Screaming Eagles. He took immense pleasure in fiddle and Cape Breton music, attending various festivals and events across the Island. Ian enjoyed living in Ashby and especially enjoyed his friends and neighbors on Cusack Drive. He looked forward to spending time with his grandchildren when they came home on vacation. They will miss him very much.
Surviving are his loving wife, Isabel (Lewis); daughter, Sandra (Jens-Arne) Meyer-Rahlfs and their children, Willem and Hannes, Halifax; sons, Sheumais (Kayoko), Japan and Andrew (Mary Eileen) and their son, Kieren, Lower Sackville; brothers, Harvey (Donna), Howie Center and Owen (Hilda), Belleville, Ont.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. A memorial service will be held in the chapel on Thursday 11 a. m., with Rev. Rosemary Godin officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to the Y’s Mens Xmas Cheer Fund or a charity of your choice.
A special thank you to the doctors and nurses of 4D and the An Cala Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for the excellent care and kindness shown to our husband/father over the past several months.
