Elsie Olga EWANCHYNA
July 3, 1932 – August 29, 2015

Elsie Ewanchyna passed away peacefully on August 29, 2015 in Prince Albert, SK at the age of 83. Elsie was born on the family homestead near Shipman, SK to William and Maggie Basaraba. She fell in love and married her sweetheart Mike Ewanchyna on October 15, 1950. Elsie and Mike lived in Meath Park, SK where they started their family and owned and operated “Mikes Save A Dollar” store until moving to Prince Albert where Elsie has resided ever since. Elsie worked in several departments at the Victoria Hospital until Mike’s retirement when she decided to follow in his footsteps. She had many hobbies and interests such as baking, gardening, sewing, knitting and going for coffee with her friends at Smitty’s. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Holidays were a special time for Elsie, she would spend days preparing all of the traditional Ukrainian meals. Elsie is survived by her son Lauran (Brenda), grandson Tyler (Andrea) Rocheleau and their children, Paige and Hailey; Valene (Trent) Rocheleau and their children, Easton, Kaya and Chaylee; her brother Tony (Anne) Basaraba; sister Phyllis (Bill) Kott; her sisters-in-law Mary Basaraba and Florence Basaraba; as well as many nieces and nephews. Elsie was predeceased by her parents William and Maggie Basaraba; her husband Mike; daughter Leona; son Larry; great granddaughter Faith; sister Stella in infancy and brothers Mike, Paul and Edward. Special thanks to Dr. Cantin for his care and compassion, as well as all of the staff of the Herb Bassett Home (Paradise Path) for being there for Elsie and her family over the last couple of years by making a safe, comfortable and loving home for her. Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm. on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK with Reverend Father Ivan Tsikhoskyy, officiating. Interment will be held at South Hill Cemetery. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan, 301 – 2550 – 12th Avenue, Regina, SK S4P 3X1.
