It is with broken hearts and great sadness that we, the family, announce the peaceful and sudden passing of a dear son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Alvin Sutherland, on Monday, Aug. 31, 2015 in 7 Oakes Hospital, Winnipeg, Man.
Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of Michael and Margaret Holmes Sutherland. Alvin worked for many years in Ontario, British Colombia and Winnipeg. Anyone who knew Alvin knew that he could just about build anything out of a piece of wood (especially his children's bunkbeds). Country music (George Jones) was also one of his many loves.
He is survived by the mother of his children, Sharon; his five children, Doreen (Kevin), Alvin, Steven (Chantell), Billy (Sandy), Shawn (Amanda); grandchildren, Tyler, Malcolm, Michael, Kaleb, and Ethan. Also survived by sisters, Mary (the late Stan Frye), Bertha (the late Harold Henry), Alvina (John Andrea), Sandra (Harley Young), Delores (Earl Fry), Josephine (the late Allan Herridge); brothers, Michael (Lynne Mooney), many nieces, nephews and a special niece, Roxanne Sutherland and her son Aarron, good friends, Billy Barrie and Billy Hall.
Predeceased by brother, William and his wife, Mary; an infant brother, Robert. Cremation and service have taken place in Winnipeg.
The family would like to thank everyone who's been there for Alvin the last few years that he was home in Cape Breton.
